Spots Still Available for USA Luge Fantasy Camp In April
USA Luge March 09, 2010
LAKE PLACID, N.Y. --- This is your chance to experience the Fastest Sport on Ice ® in a fun and safe environment during the USA Luge Fantasy Camp. The camp will take place April 8-11 in Lake Placid, N.Y.
The three-day experience allows "campers" to live the life of an Olympic luge athlete, as they try the sport firsthand, approaching speeds of 50 miles-per-hour, down the 1,360-meter long Olympic Sports Complex course, in Lake Placid. USA Luge provides all the equipment needed, including helmets, sleds, padding and race clothing, for the weekend of luge fun.
While in Lake Placid, each participant, age 18 and above, will also be taught proper start technique on the indoor, refrigerated start ramps at USA Luge's headquarters, one of only two indoor refrigerated start ramps in North America, and stay at the United States Olympic Training Center, the primary training site for many of the top U.S. Olympians.
The camp is directed by three-time Olympian and 1998 silver medalist Gordy Sheer. Sheer, in conjunction with other members of the USA Luge coaching staff, including World Cup medalist and NBC Sports announcer Duncan Kennedy, will teach campers the basics of sled control and safety. Each session will be captured on videotape and reviewed to further sharpen the skills of the participant. A farewell dinner concludes the three-day event and each camper receives a video documenting their time in Lake Placid.
